We have reached 48,000 volunteers

You're still on time: take advantage of this summer to join the last 2,000 participants of the Cantabria Cohort!

We've reached 48,000 volunteers and are now just 2,000 Cantabrians away from our goal of 50,000 participants. This target represents 20% of the target population—all residents of Cantabria between the ages of 40 and 70, regardless of whether or not they have any medical conditions.

Some municipalities have already surpassed the target set by researchers: Santa Cruz de Bezana (25.94%), Camargo (24.09%), Villaescusa (23.03%), El Astillero (22.35%), Medio Cudeyo (22.30%), Piélagos (22.13%), Marina de Cudeyo (20.30%), Entrambasaguas (20.25%), Ribamontán al Monte (20.20%), and Cabezón de la Sal (20.12%). Other municipalities, such as Penagos, Ribamontán al Mar, Miengo, Polanco, and Castañeda, are also very close to reaching the 20% participation goal of the target population.

While we have a Telephone Support team responsible for inviting candidates to join the study, anyone interested who meets the eligibility criteria can also register through our website to be scheduled and become part of the cohort. They can also call 699 17 22 64 or 620 48 73 58 (available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday on non-holiday days).

Once participants are enrolled in Cantabria Cohort, they receive all the information and a lifestyle questionnaire via email, which they must complete. On the day of their appointment, they should go to Pavilion 20 at Valdecilla Hospital, where a blood sample is taken and body composition measurements are performed. Results are sent to all volunteers within 1–2 weeks. In the following months, participants may receive additional questionnaires and invitations to take part in sub-studies nested within the cohort, if they meet the criteria. Cantabria Cohort is a longitudinal study, meaning it continues over time, with regular follow-ups to monitor how the health status of participants evolves throughout their lives.
