“Health Tuesdays” Talks Organized by Torrelavega City Council
Dr. Javier Crespo, Scientific Director of the Cantabria Cohort, took part in the “Health Tuesdays” talks, an initiative organized by Torrelavega City Council at the Hermilio Alcalde del Río Cultural Centre.
This programme of activities, held every Tuesday from 19:00 to 21:00, aims to bring health information closer to the public through an educational format, whether through roundtable discussions or open talks. The initiative seeks to present, in a clear and accessible way, different aspects related to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of various health conditions.
Throughout the sessions, topics of great interest to the general public are addressed, such as the prevention and treatment of rheumatic diseases, reflection on obstetric violence and the need to move towards care that respects women’s rights, as well as issues such as healthcare system financing, considering the real cost of health and public decision-making processes. Matters related to children’s health have also been discussed, including resources available for families with children who are overweight or obese, as well as support and treatment options in these cases. In addition, an up-to-date overview has been provided on the microbiota and the proven effects of probiotics and prebiotics, including recommendations on when it is necessary to consult a specialist.
During the session in which we participated, Javier Crespo highlighted the challenges and latest developments of the Cantabria Cohort project, in an open format where attendees actively took part with questions and suggestions.
Participation in initiatives such as this reinforces the Cantabria Cohort’s commitment to scientific outreach and the transfer of knowledge to society.
Thank you for inviting us, and thanks to all attendees for their participation!
