We have started collaborations with the Mayo Clinic

On Wednesday, June 5th, we had the great pleasure of welcoming Dr. Young Juhn to IDIVAL. Dr. Juhn is the Director of the Artificial Intelligence Program in the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine and the Director of the Precision Population Science Laboratory at the Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Juhn is a specialist in Pediatrics, and his research focuses on the epidemiology of asthma as well as the development of AI for the diagnosis, management, and prognosis of this disease. Additionally, a significant portion of his studies is dedicated to analyzing the socioeconomic factors that determine health in the U.S. population. Throughout his career, he has published over 150 research articles and has trained more than 80 researchers.

Dr. Juhn presented some advances in his field at the seminar “The HOUSES Platform: Revolutionary Metric of Social Determinants of Health and Digital Biomarker in Clinical and Translational Science.” The HOUSES index is a tool developed by his team to quantify socioeconomic status based on housing characteristics. This allows for the analysis of how social determinants can impact an individual's health. Its implementation has been key in the United States to support health research and public policies aimed at determining the underlying mechanisms of disparities in access to the healthcare system.

Dr. Juhn's work synergizes with the work we are conducting in Cantabria Cohort, and we did not miss the opportunity to lay the groundwork for a promising collaboration.
