the international reach of Cantabria Cohort<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We continue to advance our international vocation and the export the model of our Cohort for population-based research. In this context, we are establishing collaborative relationships with scientific and healthcare institutions in other countries, with the aim of sharing the experience and knowledge gained in Cantabria.<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With this purpose, Dr. Marcos L\u00f3pez Hoyos visited Panama on December 11, 12, and 13, where he held several high-level institutional meetings. During his stay, he met with the National Secretary of Science, Technology and Innovation (SENACYT), the Minister of Health, and their respective teams to explore the possibility of implementing a population-based study in the country based on the Cantabria Cohort model.<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This initiative was made possible thanks to the Institute of Scientific Research and High Technology Services (INDICASAT AIP), led by Dr. Timothy Thomson, a researcher specialized in molecular medicine, to whom we extend our sincere thanks for his invitation and interest.<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Panama, with an approximate population of 4.6 million inhabitants, is of great interest for the development of genetic studies due to its ethnic diversity, including the presence of minority groups and Native American populations. In addition, the study of the exposome (the set of environmental factors to which people are routinely exposed) is of particular relevance given the country\u2019s extraordinary biodiversity, ranging from microorganisms to plants and animals.<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the visit, Dr. L\u00f3pez Hoyos held meetings and delivered lectures at key strategic locations, such as the City of Knowledge Technology Park and the City of Health Hospital, as well as meetings with epidemiology experts and institutional representatives. Panamanian authorities have expressed their interest in launching a population-based cohort in the country and, given their lack of prior experience with this type of initiative, have shown their willingness to seek guidance from Cantabria Cohort specialists, whose study they consider fully aligned with their objectives and needs.<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Strengthening synergies with Poland<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Within the framework of this international strategy, Dr. Marta D\u00edaz held a meeting last Monday, December 15, with Dr. Marcin Moniuszko, Rector of the Medical University of Bia\u0142ystok (Poland). In this city, a population-based cohort of 5,000 individuals aged 20 to 80 is being conducted, with participants undergoing intensive clinical evaluations (more information at <a style=\"text-decoration: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/bialystok.plus\/en\/badania\/\">their webpage<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The collaboration between both institutions began in December 2023, when Dr. L\u00f3pez Hoyos was invited to present Cantabria Cohort in Bia\u0142ystok (more information <a style=\"text-decoration: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/cohortecantabria.com\/en\/2023\/12\/04\/cohorte-cantabria-en-bialystok\/\">here<\/a>). During the meeting, Dr. Marta D\u00edaz highlighted the main milestones of Cohorte Cantabria and key points were identified to establish scientific synergies between the two cohorts.
